Annual Conference is officially over and the work for the next year begins. At the closing worship service we affirmed the work of the Initiative on Growth and Vitality as we adopted our Conference Vision Statement. If you weren’t at Conference, let me share the vision statement with you now.

We are called to be a Courageous Church:
Loving Like Jesus
Acting for Justice
United in Hope

It is one thing to say that we want to be a courageous church, but to describe what a courageous church looks like takes faith and commitment.

In the year ahead we will continue to discuss and plan what is needed to move into such a bold statement. I can imagine that there will be excitement along with the hard work needed to live into what God is calling us to do. This one thought fills my heart, we will be in this journey together.

I look forward to having conversations about ways that our churches may collaborate as we take new steps of faith. To better prepare our hearts I would ask that you join with me in praying that our vision statement would become a reality. We will need God’s guidance. We will trust in one another. And we will need to be bold in our decision making.

Print out the Vision Statement and put it where you will see it every day. Let it guide your daily prayer not only for the Desert Southwest Annual Conference, but for your local church and your own life as a disciple of Jesus Christ. Can you imagine what would happen if every United Methodist truly embodied the vision? Let’s make it happen.

Romans 12: 5 …so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another.
