Appointment Announcements May 18, 2020

The Rev. Dan R. Morley, Missional Strategist and Superintendent of the North District, announced that Bishop Robert T. Hoshibata intends to appoint the Rev. Mike Higgs as pastor of  Journey UMC in Las Vegas, NV, less than full-time, effective July 1, 2020 per ¶ 357.6 of the 2016 United Methodist Book of Discipline. Rev. Higgs is a retired elder in the Desert Southwest Conference.

Appointment Announcements May 5, 2020

The Rev. Mark Conrad, Missional Strategist and Superintendent of the South District, announced that Bishop Robert T. Hoshibata intends to appoint the Rev. Susan Holden as associate pastor of Desert Skies United Methodist Church – Vail Campus, Tucson AZ, effective July 1, 2020. Rev. Holden currently serves as pastor of Journey UMC in Las Vegas, NV.

The Rev. Nancy Cushman, Missional Strategist and Superintendent of the West District, announced that she intends to assign Gina Pollard as lay person assigned to City Square UMF and Primera Iglesia Metodista Unida in Phoenix, AZ less than full-time, effective July 1, 2020 per ¶ 205.4 of the 2016 United Methodist Book of Discipline.

Maria Antonieta Fernandes to Christ Community UMC in Avondale, AZ effective July 1, 2020.  Rev. Fernandes currently serves as pastor of Global Community UMF in Las Vegas, NV.

 

 

 

On April 19, 2020, the Rev. Court Fischer announced on Facebook the difficult decision to move to Kansas City, MO where his wife was offered a wonderful career opportunity. He is awaiting news of an appointment in the Missouri Conference.

Rev. Hosler is a retired pastor with the Episcopal Diocese of AZ.

Jimelvia Pettiford Martin as pastor of River of Living Water United Methodist Church in Jasper, AL, effective July 1, 2020, per ¶ 346.1 of the 2016 United Methodist Book of Discipline. Rev. Martin currently serves as pastor of Calvary United Methodist Church in Phoenix, AZ.

Bishop Robert T. Hoshibata has affirmed that Bishop Karen Oliveto, of the Mountain Sky Episcopal area, intends to appoint Pastor Samara Jenkins as pastor of First United Methodist Church in Gillette, Wyoming effective July 1, 2020. Pastor Jenkins is currently serving as associate pastor of University UMC in Las Vegas and as the Campus Minister of University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Ron Bartlow as pastor of First United Methodist Church in Winslow, AZ, less than full-time, effective July 1, 2020 per ¶ 338.2 of the 2016 United Methodist Book of Discipline. The Rev. Bartlow is currently on transitional leave of absence per ¶ 353.2 c1 of the 2016 United Methodist Book of Discipline.

 

 

Pastor Nicholas Grainger currently appointed to First UMC in Winslow is preparing to attend Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Rev. Doug Handlong has been granted Formational and Spiritual Growth Leave beginning April 21, 2020 until July 20, 2020 per paragraph ¶350.3 of the 2016 United Methodist Book of Discipline.

Rev. Borneman is a retired pastor from the Western Pennsylvania Conference.

Dotson is currently a member of the Susquehanna Annual Conference (Pennsylvania) and is serving in the Desert Southwest Conference at First United Methodist Church of Safford, Arizona.

 

Wallasky, Rev. Dr. JamesThe Rev. Dr James Wallasky, currently appointed to Green Valley UMC, Henderson, Nevada, will enter into retired status effective July 1, 2020.

Rev. Butcher most recently served at Lakeview UMC in Sun City, Arizona. Rev. Butcher entered retired status in 2018.

 

Grace UMC, Mesa, ArizonaRev. Janessa Chastain, currently appointed to Grace UMC, has accepted a position as the Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity in Boise, Idaho and will begin a personal leave of absence effective April 1, 2020 per paragraphs ¶ 353.2a and ¶ 353.4 of the 2016 United Methodist Book of Discipline.

Evelene “Tweedy” Sombrero Navarrete, as Director of  the Four Corners Native American Ministry and as pastor of First United Methodist Church. This is a two-point charge in Shiprock, New Mexico effective May 1, 2020, per paragraph 346.1 of the 2016 United Methodist Book of Discipline. Rev. Navarrete is currently serving as pastor of Shepherd of the Valley UMC in Phoenix, Arizona.
