Jerry Haas

Jerry Haas

Jerry Haas is a retired Elder from the Desert Southwest Conference. He is the former Director of the Academy for Spiritual Formation and Emerging at The Upper Room in Nashville (1999 – 2012). After returning to Southern Arizona, he served as Executive Director of the Border Community Alliance, a nonprofit committed to Borderlands education and cross-border collaboration. He and his wife Donna live in Green Valley, Arizona. Jerry is the retreat leader for this Academy. He can be reached at jndhaas@gmail.com.

Doug Handlong

Doug Handlong

Doug Handlong currently serves as the Senior Pastor of the United Methodist Church of Green Valley, Arizona. A native of Arizona, Doug attended Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, and served appointments in various settings in Arizona as well as an appointment in Alaska. Judy Holloway

Judy Holloway

Judy Holloway is an ordained Deacon from the Central Texas Conference. An accomplished musician and choir director, she has served on many Academy teams, including the two-year Academy in San Antonio. Judy is the worship and music coordinator for this Academy. Rev. In-Sook Hwang

In-Sook Hwang

Rev. In-Sook Hwang is a retired Elder of the Illinois Great Rivers Conference.  Before retirement, she served several cross-racial/cultural appointments and as District Superintendent. Her passion has been for inclusion, intercultural competency training and spiritual formation.  She has served as a member of the leadership teams for both the two-year Academy for Spiritual Formation and Five Day Academies for Spiritual Formation. In retirement, she has been involved in homeless shelter ministries, interfaith council, and detainee spiritual care.  She can be reached at insookh53@gmail.com.

Gail Parson

Gail Parson

Gail Parson is a retired math teacher, now living in Oro Valley, Arizona with her husband Darrell. She is a member of Vista de la Montana UMC where she serves as chairperson of the worship committee. Gail completed Academy #40, the two-year Academy for Spiritual Formation which took place at San Damiano Retreat Center in Danville, California. Gail is the hospitality coordinator for this retreat.
