By Rolly Loomis, INM Conference Coordinator
The Imagine No Malaria Ministry of the Desert Southwest Conference is taking on a life of its own. Many people have been trained to be leaders in their congregations. pastors have been preaching about saving lives. Children in Sunday schools have become aware of African children and their families who are dying from malaria every day. churches are raising awareness and funds. The spirit of God is moving among us in powerful ways.
On Wednesday, April 17 I was pleased to be with the First United Methodist Church Safford, Sidewalk Sunday School. This group of early elementary school-age children has been learning all about malaria. They are excited to be a part of a church wide movement to save lives. Ask any of these children and they will tell you all about the ministry. Ask them how much it take to save a life? They’ll all shout “Ten Dollars!”
While there, I presented a certificate giving special recognition of their lifesaving work. They have saved 27 lives so far and have challenged the adults in the congregation to save 1,000 lives.
This is just one example. There are hundreds more around The Desert Southwest Conference and there are still many ways for you and your congregation to get involved and start saving lives.

Time to celebrate
We have identified INM Local Church Coordinators in 95% of our churches. We have hit the 20,000 lives saved mark between cash collected and pledges. Our Church Affirmation of Goals Forms turned in total over 40,000 lives or $400,000. That is based on less than 10% of our churches. Please visit our website athttp://www.imaginenobuzz.net. There are frequent updates including the financial results of the campaign and where your church stands. Please get those “Affirmation of Goal” forms in ASAP so the celebration can continue.
Almost one half of the INM Local Church Coordinators have been trained in three offerings of our INM Online Training. The last session was recorded and is available at: http://umc.adobeconnect.com/p81aipw76q6/. This is helpful for any church member but All Local Church Coordinators should be trained. Please take one hour to do so and verify to Rolly Loomis at
Now is the time for action
Our chief foci over the next month are:
Organize effective INM Teams in your local church—This needs to be done now, if it has not already occurred. Put together a passionate group of mission minded individuals. Meet with your pastor and church leaders to get them on board with the vision. Initiate a church-wide campaign. Educate your church and community about Imagine No Malaria. This is about saving lives, millions of lives.
Set a Local Church Goal—Lead your church in a discussion of how many lives they will save. Think big. Be extravagant! Affirm the local church goal on or before May 12, 2013 with the “Affirmation of Goal” form which can be found athttp://www.imaginenobuzz.net on the resources page. It is our Conference Goal to save 200,000 lives and $10 dollars saves a life. We will celebrate at our Annual Conference in June. Please do as much as you can to help us all get there.
Raise Awareness and Funds—Become an expert on malaria. Spread the word in your church and community. Start with yourself. Consider making an extravagant gift. Get out there! Get busy! Show the world how United Methodists follow Christ into the world.
Give—Through your local United Methodist Church or visit The Desert Southwest Conference Imagine No Malaria website: http://www.imaginenobuzz.net and click on “DONATE NOW” Remember, $10 saves a life. A gift of $1,000 can be made for only $28.00 per month over a three year period. That would be 100 lives saved!
