How can a church provide families with a free, fun, and missional experience? North Scottsdale United Methodist Church (NSUMC) accomplishes this by hosting an annual Trunk or Treat festival.
The basic Trunk or Treating guidelines include:
- Wear a friendly costume. (Please leave the scary ones at home.)
- Back your vehicle into a NSUMC parking space.
- Decorate your trunk.(Creativity is good!)
- Set up folding chairs next to your trunk.
- Place your treats (candy) in your trunk.
North Scottsdale UMC’s annual event includes carnival games, snow cones, a bouncer, and a safe trick or treating experience. Hot dogs and other snacks are available for purchase throughout the evening. Halfway through the event the NSUMC Youth Group leads children in a costume parade. The night ends with trophies for exceptional costumes and decorated trunks.
NSUMC advertises the event to the community asking attending families to donate a box of cereal that will be given to United Methodist Outreach Ministries (UMOM) in Phoenix. This festival has benefited UMOM New Day Center’s breakfast pantry for over a decade. The mission of UMOM is to provide homeless and low-income families with food, shelter and tools to build a bridge to self-sufficiency.
NSUMC is hosting its 15th annual Trunk or Treat Festival from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2013 in the NSUMC church parking lot located at 11735 North Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, Aizona 85254.
