Sidewalk Ministry Sites Are Multiplying & Christmas is Coming

Last year, for the first time, Sidewalk Ministries found itself in need of more Christmas bags for our Sidewalk kids than our Conference churches had committed to donating. In the end, God provided, but it was close!

Our Conference began Sidewalk Sunday School ministry in 1999, first with a site in Las Vegas, then a site in Tucson, and quickly followed by a launch in Phoenix. The ministry has continued to grow. While the number of Sidewalk sites periodically varies, we tend to average 15 sites serving several thousand children and their families, bringing the Good News to the neighborhoods! We have an incredible team of volunteers leading the sites, visiting homes, and praying with our brothers and sisters. Our Beal Fund, which helps our Sidewalk families through emergency circumstances, remains strong. The fund is used to help our Sidewalk families with such things as rent, utility payments, even a recent funeral of a Sidewalk member. Our churches have been generous with camp scholarships, and we send our Sidewalk kiddos to camp each and every year. Thank you Desert Southwest Conference!

Currently we have 16 Sidewalk sites throughout our Conference. And I’m excited to say we have four new churches evaluating launching Sidewalk! Exciting evangelism as some churches determine how to use their $2,000 that they received at Annual Conference.

This brings me back to Christmas. With the 16 sites and more on the way, we know we will need your help with our Christmas bag promotion. We love to share the story of Christmas with our Sidewalk kids and families, as well as the many newcomers who attend during Christmas. Please consider donating Christmas cheer this year.

We give each child who comes to Sidewalk during our Christmas worship an age and gender appropriate gift bag of small gift items. They are fun to shop for, and a blessing in knowing that you have made a child smile. We have a great power point presentation created by our Sidewalk Christmas Elf, I mean Christmas Bag Coordinator, Bev Secrist, on the Conference website at www.desertsouthwestconference.org/sidewalk-sunday-school. The presentation gives all the details you need. Bev will be happy to work with your church, come out, and speak to your church (as will I), or assist you with whatever you need. Bev can be reached at .

Many times this Christmas bag is the only present our Sidewalk kids receive at Christmas. Whether you’re Santa, or Mrs. Claus, join in the fun! Your gift will bring many smiles and be a blessing beyond measure. Thank you!
