A letter to clergy of the DSC

Bishop Robert T. HoshibataDear Clergy Members of the Desert Southwest Conference,

I greet you in the name and spirit of the risen Christ! I hope that you experienced the joy of celebration through worship this past Easter. And that you have also taken some time with family and friends doing something that brings you renewal!

My attention recently has been focused on plans for our Annual Conference session coming in June. This year, we will meet at the Renaissance Hotel in Glendale, and the dates for the session are Thursday, June 18, through Sunday, June 21. For details, see the Desert Southwest website at: www.dscumc.org/annualconference.

I want to remind you that all clergy, active and retired, in local church as well as in extension ministry appointments, are required to be present at Annual Conference. This is the primary place where we connect with one another as clergy colleagues in covenant with one another to uphold each other and to celebrate our calls to ministry.

My expectation is that all of you will make every effort to be present and participating for the entire span of the Annual Conference as we work to INSPIRE our congregations to be in ministry through the church and its ministries in the neighborhoods and communities we serve.

Clergy Procession at Annual ConferenceI know that there are some who are not able to be present at Annual Conference for some or all of the session. Please remember that it is important that those of you who want to be excused are expected to write (email or letter) to your District Superintendent, requesting to be excused. Please state the reason for your request as well as the day or days you cannot be at the conference.

Working with the Sessions Committee, I am hoping that this Annual Conference will be a gathering where deepening of fellowship, meaningful worship, informative and interesting discussions, caring outreach, and even laughter and joy will be evident and experienced. Your presence will contribute to the realization of these hopes. With you present, our common ministry will be made stronger and our connections will be made more meaningful.

If you have any questions about this, please contact your District Superintendent. I am looking forward to greeting you in June!

In Christ,

Bishop Bob Hoshibata
