Rev. Susan Brims

After consulting with both the Cabinet and the Central East District Committee on Superintendency, it is the intention of Bishop Robert T. Hoshibata to appoint Rev. Susan Brims to serve as the new District Superintendent of the Central East District effective July 1, 2016. Rev. Brims succeeds the Rev. Dr. Robert Burns, who recently announced his retirement. Rev. Brims is currently serving as pastor of Dove of the Desert United Methodist Church, Glendale, where she has served Dove since July, 2012.

What began as an eight-year-old girl walking to church alone has grown into passion for worship and intentional discipleship, both personal and corporate. For Rev. N. Susan Brims, the journey is about finding one’s purpose in life and then living that out in bold ways.

Susan is a native Phoenician, growing up at Epworth UMC. She attended seminary at Candler School of Theology in Atlanta. The majority of her career has been served in the Central West District. In May 2013 Susan married Randy Bowman and became part of a family that includes Alex,  Nicole, and Adam Bowman.

Susan’s focus is on equipping church leaders with the tools and support they need to empower their congregations over the long term. Her goal is to help churches to achieve greater levels of outreach and disciple making through strategic missional priorities.

“It is with great joy that I welcome Rev. N. Susan Brims to the position of District Superintendent of the Central East District. Rev. Brims has demonstrated a deep desire to serve God through excellent pastoral care, creative worship, servant ministry, and mission outreach. In her local church as well as in our annual conference setting she has planned and led excellent worship that inspires and draws people closer to God. I anticipate that those gifts will be well employed in her ministry as a district superintendent as she assists in bringing vitality to our Conference.” – Bishop Robert T. Hoshibata

Please keep Rev. Brims and her family, as well as the congregation at Dove of the Desert UMC in prayer in this time of transition and change.
