Reverend James Stewart

We are saddened to announce the death of Reverend James Stewart, a retired member of the Desert Southwest Conference. Rev. Stewart passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016. He last served at UMC of Green Valley, in the South District. Services are pending. Please keep the Stewart family in your prayers during this difficult time.

Reverend Cheryl Jones Cumbee

The Memorial Service for Rev. Cheryl Jones Cumbee will take place on January 7, 2017, at 1:00 pm in North Scottsdale UMC, 11735 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85254.

All clergy (any denomination) are invited to come robed with white stoles a half hour early for the clergy procession. Clergy not wearing a robe may still participate in the procession. (Published on Dec. 15)

We are saddened to announce the death of Reverend Cheryl Jones Cumbee, an affiliate member of the Desert Southwest Conference. Reverend Anna Bell

Prayers are requested for retired Rev. Anna Bell, from the East District. Rev. Bell’s stepfather, Clarence Reed, had a mild heart attack and is scheduled for heart surgery today, Monday, December 12, 2016, despite complications due to mesothelioma. Please keep Rev. Pastor George Barcus

Death of Rev. Mariano Moreno

We are saddened to announce the death of Reverend Mariano Moreno, a member of Desert Southwest Conference. Rev. Moreno passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2016. He last served at El Mesias UMC in the South District. Services were held on Thursday, November 17, 2016, at Kelsey Memorial Methodist Church at 1610 Comanche Street, Corpus Christi, TX 78401. Please keep the Moreno family in your prayers during this difficult time.

Rev. Dr. Richard Smith

Please keep Rev. Dr. Richard Smith in prayer. He will undergo surgery today, Thursday, November 17, 2016, at North Vista Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada. Rev. Smith is a staff chaplain at St. Rose Dominican Hospital-San Martin Campus, also in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Published on Nov. 17)

Death of Rev. Dr. Larry Hinshaw

We are saddened to announce the death of Reverend Dr. Larry Hinshaw, a retired elder and former District Superintendent of the Desert Southwest Conference. Rev. Hinshaw passed away Sunday, November 13, 2016, at his home in Sacramento, California. Prayers are requested for his wife, Doreen, and their family during this difficult time.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at Central UMC, 1875 N Central Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85004. (Published on Nov. 16)

Rev. Alicia Tomkus

Prayers are requested for Reverend Alicia Tomkus, associate pastor at UMC of Green Valley in the South District. Rev. Elizondo received news that her father, Juan Huertas Soto, has a large brain tumor. Rev. Tomkus will be traveling to be with him on November 8th. Please keep Rev. Rev. Janessa Chastain

Prayers are requested for Reverend Janessa Chastain, pastor of Grace UMC in the East District. Rev. Chastain’s stepmother, Marsha, had a heart attack on the evening of November 8th and had a stent put in. Please keep Rev. Rev. Jon Ierley

Congratulations to Reverend Jon Ierley, a retired elder from Desert Southwest Conference, and his wife, Robbie, on the birth of their new granddaughter, Virginia Jean Ierley. Rev. Dr. Larry Hinshaw

Prayers are requested for Reverend Dr. Larry Hinshaw, a retired elder of the Desert Southwest Conference. Rev. Hinshaw has been undergoing treatment for lung cancer for some years. This week he entered into the care of Hospice at his home in Sacramento. Please keep Rev. Larry, his wife Doreen, and their family in your prayers during this difficult time. (Published on Nov. 4)

Rev. Ed Womack

Prayers of thanksgiving for Reverend Ed Womack, a retired elder of the Desert Southwest Conference. Rev. Womack’s wife, Jean Womack, was diagnosed last month with a malignant growth from the base of her tongue which was removed.  As of October 31, 2016, the incision has healed and cancer did not spread. Please keep Jean Womack, Rev. Womack, and their family in your prayers. (Published on Nov. 1)


Prayer Requests are emailed to members of the clergy covenant in the Desert Southwest Conference after the family has given permission to do so.
