Fourteen year old Sierra Noel was the guest artist at the Willowbrook UMC Mosaic creative arts worship service on January 1. While her grandfather, Rev. Steve Marshall, preached the sermon “Learning from Wise Men,” Sierra created a pastel painting of the three wise men riding their camels as they followed the star. The congregation was very supportive as Mosaic had its best attendance of 135. Many church members afterward commented not only on her talent but her poise before such a large crowd.
Following her inaugural effort, Sierra has been invited to do more art sermons. She, accompanied by her grandmother Susan Marshall, will present an art sermon at Youngtown UMC, 11234 W. Alabama, Youngtown, at 10:00 AM on Sunday, February 12 and with Rev. Steve Marshall at Willowbrook UMC,19390 N 99th Ave, Sun City, the following Saturday, February 18 at the 5:00 PM Sabbath service.
Whether this develops into a long-term ministry remains to be seen. But in the meantime, Sierra is enjoying using her art abilities to bring God’s Word to life.
