August 13-19, 2017 is the week that churches in the Desert Southwest Conference will be engaged in a week of prayer for the future of The United Methodist Church and the work of the Commission on a Way Forward. What are your week-long prayer plans? Whether your church is planning a prayer walk or a prayer chain, let’s collaborate on this effort to ensure each of our churches has an infectious week of prayer!

Need some ideas on implementing the week of prayer in your local setting? Resources for all of the ideas mentioned below will be available at https://dscumc.org/praying-way-forward by July 21.

  • Special worship service
  • Bulletin insert with 7-day prayer schedule
  • Email daily devotional to the congregation
  • Social media photo-a-day challenge
  • Prayer walk
  • Sunday school drawings

If your church has a prayer room, set up experiential prayer stations. If your church has a prayer team, use their creativity to come up with something unique to your setting. Remember the week of prayer should focus on the following:

  1. Praying daily for our mission, “to make disciples for the transformation of the world.”
  2. Praying regularly for the work of the Commission on a Way Foward.
  3. Fasting and praying for our future as The United Methodist Church.

More information, resources, and ideas are to come. Including details of an online prayer experience at the end of the Conference-wide prayer week.
