The calls from the affected conferences in Texas at the end of August 2017 for Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief were answered by the Desert Southwest Conference in a number of ways.  Many United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) Emergency Response Team (ERT) classes were held.  As a result, we have more trained Emergency Response Teams as well as recertification of Emergency Response Teams in the Conference.  Six teams were deployed which supported cleaning out homes, chainsaw operations, and damage assessment.  New team leaders were certified during deployment.  The Conference is better prepared to respond to future calls for rapid deployment.  Over 400 clean-up kits, over 800 hygiene kits, and over 100 school kits were assembled for the Salt Lake City Warehouse.

The North District United Methodist Women (UMW) met in southern Nevada with guest speaker Brian Diggs, Associate Director of UMCOR West.  Donations from North District churches were donated to the warehouse at that meeting.

*Emergency Response Teams and kits are still needed for Hurricane Harvey Relief.
