by | Feb 20, 2018 | South District Newsletter, South District Webpage

It is with great pleasure that the Desert Southwest Conference and the South District announce Bowie UMC’s 110th Anniversary. Bowie Methodist Episcopal Church was organized in December 1907. The present church was dedicated April 12, 1942, after the previous church building and parsonage were destroyed by a fire in 1940. The church has enjoyed a long, rich history along and a few name changes. Rev. Oskar (Tony) Ontanyon was appointed to Bowie UMC in 2015.

On the evening of February 5, 2018, Bowie UMC celebrated their 110th anniversary. At the celebration, it was voted that that the Church’s name be changed to Community UMC. Congratulations on 110 years of ministry; and thank you Rev. Tony for your faithfulness to serve the church and the community. Please pray for Rev. Tony and Community UMC as they continue to seek ways to minister to the community.
