In gratitude for his life, and in faith, we share the news that the Rev. Harold (Hal) M. Cowart, a retired elder in the Desert Southwest Conference, died on Wednesday, July 4, 2018.
Rev. Cowart was ordained a deacon in 1964 and an elder in 1968 in the South Georgia Annual Conference. He attended the University of Alabama and Candler School of Theology at Emory University. He received his doctorate from Claremont School of Theology. His ministry included service in the South Georgia Annual Conference; the Southern California-Arizona Annual Conference: Long Beach: Los Altos UMC; Coolidge: Coolidge UMC; the Pacific-Southwest Annual Conference: Phoenix: Asbury UMC; Flagstaff: Trinity Heights UMC; the Desert Southwest Annual Conference: Las Vegas: University UMC; Tucson: Catalina UMC. Rev. Cowart served as the South District Superintendent prior to his retirement in 2006 and served at Tucson: St. Paul’s UMC while in retirement.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 10:30 am at Catalina United Methodist Church, 2700 East Speedway Blvd., Tucson, AZ 85716. Clergy are invited to process for the service. Please wear a white or gold stole.
