June 1, 2019, marks the 10th anniversary of the United Methodist Committee on Relief’s western office in Salt Lake City, Utah. UMCOR West is the second UMCOR Relief-Supply warehouse in the country. Alongside UMCOR Sager Brown in Baldwin, LA, UMCOR’s Relief-Supply ministry relies on volunteers to build, shelve, and distribute relief kits to those affected by natural disasters in the United States. Mission teams from churches across the nation work at UMCOR West on a weekly basis (M-F). As a connectional Church, we know that, together, we can make a difference in the most vulnerable and displaced populations.
Over the past ten years, UMCOR West has received mission groups/volunteers from every single state in the west and has even welcomed groups from as far away as Iowa, Texas, and Maryland. It has been a powerful decade of vital ministry, and we look forward to the next decade of service.
In the past, due to demand, groups wishing to volunteer at UMCOR West had to book about a year in advance if they wanted to come in the spring, summer, or fall. Oddly, the spring and summer of 2019 have a number of weeks that are still open. We would love to fill those weeks with enthusiastic volunteers eager to serve those in need acting as the hands and feet of Jesus in a broken world.
UMCOR West provides a clean and safe workspace that can accommodate large or small groups. Moreover, UMCOR West is a great place to engage in an intergenerational mission experience as all ages are welcome. And finally, volunteering with UMCOR West is a powerful way to engage with the unique religious culture of Utah as UMCOR West volunteers work with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on a weekly basis in Salt Lake City.
