council of bishops

As you are preparing your 2019 calendar, the staff of the Council of Bishops would like to encourage you to consider placing the following ecumenical events on that calendar:

January 18-25, 2019 | The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. This year’s theme will be “Justice, Only Justice, You Shall Pursue” and was selected by representatives in Indonesia from Deut. 16:20. Information and resources can be obtained at www.geii.org.
March 17-19, 2019 | The Pan-Methodist Bishops’ Consultation. This year the CME will host us in Atlanta, Georgia. Bishops who have Pan-Methodist ministries in their episcopal areas may apply for travel assistance. (The Pan-Methodist Commission meets prior to the Bishops’ Consultation, March 15-17).
April 1-4, 2019 | The US National Workshop on Christian Unity (NWCU) and UMEIT: USA. This year it will be held in St. Louis, Missouri and we will be partnering with our Episcopal partners for ecumenical training and conversation about our full communion possibility. This is the event to which you will want to send your annual conference ecumenical and interreligious leaders for training. Click here for the scholarship application (deadline date is 2/15/2019).
June 6-10, 2019 | The annual Churches Uniting in Christ (CUIC) Plenary. This year the theme will be racial reconciliation and the meeting will be held in Montgomery, Alabama. Local participation is especially encouraged.
June 26-29, 2019 | UMEIT: Global. This event will be held at the theological school in Reutlingen, Germany.
July 15-29, 2019 | UMEIT: Plunge. This will take young adults, sponsored by their bishops to the ecumenical sites in Geneva, Switzerland and to experience living ecumenism in Taize, France. The final date by which you can name the young adult you wish to sponsor is December 27, 2018.
October 1-4, 2019 | The annual Christian Churches Together (CCT) Forum. This year the focus will be on racial reconciliation and will be held in Montgomery, Alabama.
October 6, 2019 | World Communion Sunday.
October 14-16, 2019 | The Christian Unity Gathering (CUG). This is a time of formation and ecumenical conversation sponsored by the National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA, probably held near the Washington, DC area.
