Sierra Service Project | Veronica Russell

Sierra Service Project is an interdenominational non-profit organization that gives teenagers the opportunity to put their faith into action by serving others. We invite volunteers of any experience level to explore, build, and grow at SSP’s week-long summer programs. SSP has plentiful scholarships available for volunteers to attend our programs this year!

In the last year, SSP volunteers provided ninety life-changing home repairs and seventeen community projects in seven locations across the Western United States. Eleven of these were wheelchair ramps, twelve were sets of stairs, and four were roof repairs. One homeowner, who received a new wheelchair ramp, said,

“the volunteers talked to us like we were old friends and listened to our stories…they will forever be part of my heart.”

Not only do these repairs provide homeowners with safer, drier, and more accessible homes, but volunteers also walk away transformed. Youth form life-long friendships, closer connections to God and deeper understandings of faith, and a sense of personal value and accomplishment. One youth volunteer last summer said,

“SSP changed the way I see the world and made me a better person.”

This fall, we are excited to share a unique opportunity, specifically for youth from Arizona! The Halle Foundation recently awarded a grant to SSP, partially dedicated to providing scholarships for low-income youth from the state of Arizona to attend our summer programs.

The typical cost to participate in the SSP summer ranges between $365 and $455 per person. This cost of attendance can be significantly reduced by applying for scholarships. For the 2019 summer, $10,000 in scholarships are available exclusively for Arizona youth!

Last summer, 20% of all SSP participants received scholarships to attend our program. We hope these plentiful funds for youth from Arizona allow even more teenagers to benefit from the SSP experience!

Most volunteers attend SSP as part of a youth group, but individual youth are also welcome. To request scholarship, group leaders should fill out this application. If you are interested in attending as an individual youth, you can fill out this application instead.

The priority deadline to apply for scholarships is January 15, 2019. We will begin to distribute awards in late January, but will continue accepting applications on a rolling basis. After the initial round of awards, scholarships will be awarded as funds are available.
