April Apportionments Decline Significantly

by | May 1, 2019 | Apportionments

April’s apportionment receipts declined significantly. For the first 4 months of 2019, our churches contributed 25.7% of their apportionments. As you can see from the detailed report, this was 2.2% below last year and 1.2% below our average apportionment contributions through April for the last ten years. At this rate, we project an overall year-end apportionment contribution percentage of only 79%-83%. That would be the worst year by far in our conference’s history. It is unclear at this point if the decline is due to financial challenges faced by our churches, reaction to the February 2019 general conference, or other factors.

The West district showed a small improvement from last year, but all other districts are down. Our overall year-to-date apportionment contributions through 4/30/19 are shown in the following graph:

Remember that apportionments are a way to look beyond just ourselves. Please do all that you can to help our churches and our ministries continue to change lives by contributing apportionments as fully as possible in the last eight months of 2019. Thank you for your commitment; it truly provides financial stability for our connectional programs to work.
