Peace with Justice Funds – Making Ministry Happen

Billie K. Fidlin, Director of Outreach & Justice

On a recent Saturday the Conference Board of Church and Society, Kent Olson, chair, met for a Saturday retreat of visioning justice ministry in our Conference. While there were many topics of innovative discussion at the retreat, the members also had some very important business to attend to.

Each year our churches financially support the Peace with Justice Fund. Through a grant application process, churches and organizations of close relationship to our Conference are able to apply for up to $1,000 in grant dollars. These grants are purposed for ministries and work that facilitates change in policies and systemic justice. The Conference Board of Church & Society has been blessed by our churches’ ongoing generosity through the annual special offerings and other donations that make justice ministry possible.

This year, the board is pleased to announce the following recipients of Peace with Justice grant awards: Asylum Aid Response, Desert Southwest Conference; Arizona Justice for Our Neighbors; Trinity Opportunity Alliance; Arizona Faith Network; Frontera Wesley Tucson; and Justa Center.

Applications for the next grant cycle will be accepted September 1 through November 1. Local church ministries receive first priority. The application can be found at https://dscumc.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Peace_with_Justice_Grant-Application_Criteria.pdf. We encourage our churches to help keep the fund fiscally healthy through their financial support to the Conference Peace with Justice Fund and offer our heartfelt gratitude for all that you give to make this grant award process possible.
