June Apportionments Decline Sharply

by | Jul 1, 2019 | Apportionments

June’s apportionment receipts declined for the fifth consecutive month, this time to a much greater extent. For the first six months of 2019, our churches contributed 38.1% of their apportionments. As you can see from the detailed report, this was 3.7% (and $300,000) below last year and 2.6% below our average apportionment contributions through June for the last ten years. At this rate, we project an overall year-end apportionment contribution percentage of only 78%-81%. That would be the worst year by far in our conference’s history.

The West district declined 1.4% from last year, the South District declined 1.6%, the East District declined 4.4%, and the North District was down 8.9%. Our overall year-to-date apportionment contributions through 6/30/19 are shown in the following graph:

Based on the low current projection for apportionment receipts, the Desert Southwest Conference Council on Finance & Administration will review various budget reductions as developed and prioritized by the Extended Cabinet. CFA will implement budget reductions this year and beyond as they deem necessary to ensure we continue to maintain adequate cash reserves.

Remember that apportionments are a way to look beyond just ourselves. Please do all that you can to help our churches and our ministries continue to change lives by contributing apportionments as fully as possible in the last six months of 2019. Thank you for your commitment; it provides financial stability for our connectional programs to work.
