Transformation is hard work! Luckily, the DSC has passionate, diverse, caring people who are up to the task of change. As the DSC is “Moving Forward” toward our vision of “being a courageous Church; loving like Jesus, acting for justice, united in hope”, our Communications Team is striving to share all of your creative, innovative ideas with the members of this Conference. To do this, we have developed a Resource Page on the Conference website, https://dscumc.org/way-forward/resources/. This page will not only be a focal point for questions and thoughts about our Way Forward, but it will also highlight some of the tools and practices developed across the Conference as we move toward our vision. Please use the questions form on the page if you have thoughts, questions or concerns you would like to share or to have answered.
One of the initial tools we want to highlight is the St. Francis of The Foothills UMC Declaration of Inclusivity – Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors. St. Francis of The Foothills UMC asked how they can lead in the efforts to live into our vision. The declaration of inclusivity statement was their response to this call, which was approved by their Church Council. This document was developed to make a strong and specific statement about their church mission. Once drafted and approved, they gathered as many signatures to the statement as possible. A more general version of the statement is now available for us all to sign if we are called to do so. Like St. Francis, other churches have also followed this call and drafted statements they are using. Several other examples of inclusivity statements are also included on the site page. Please review them, pray, decide what you are called to do. Perhaps your church will be drawn to draft their own statement. Perhaps you or your church would like to sign the document on the site.
We look forward to hearing from you about these efforts and are excited to offer space to share these ideas with the broader DSC community.
