Pastor Samara Jenkins

Psalm 46:5: God is within her, she will not fall.

My life verse, I believe that so strongly I have it tattooed on my shoulder! I love to talk but bios are rough! I am a native of Arizona and moved to Ohio in 2003. I never intended to stay there for 16 years, but God had a plan for me. I met my husband Antwone in 2007, and we were married in 2009. I have 6 children, Devaun 27, who is married to Jason and is working on his Ph.D. at Kent State University. Ariana 25, and Trysten 23 live and work in Arizona. The twins, Jordan and Jerron are 20. Jerron, “Ronny” is in the Air Force in South Carolina, and Jordan, “JoJo” is a sophomore at Mount Union in Alliance Ohio studying for a bachelors in music with a concentration in voice. Elijah is 10 and completes our “his, mine and ours” family. He attends Jenkins Elementary school in Las Vegas. He plays football, basketball, and soccer.

We keep very busy with the kids and their hobbies. Antwone is originally from Youngstown, born and raised, so being in Las Vegas is quite a change for him. I answered a call to ministry in 2009 after Elijah was born stillborn, and was brought back to us by the grace of God and a talented NICU team.

I received my first charge in 2012 in Monroe TWP Ohio and have served small rural churches throughout Ohio, ranging from 12 to 100 attending. I have a heart for the least of these and have created ministries for the homeless, sex workers, those struggling with addictions and our LGBTQ kindred. I am an ally, as three of my children identify as LGBTQ. I co-sponsored a church group called Acts 8 which served as a safe space for our LGBTQ church family.

I really love being out in the community, teaching classes, and planting new seeds for mission work. In our spare time (when there is any!) we love going to the movies, restaurants, amusement parks, and fairs. We are so excited to be part of UUMC and the work of the west!
