DSC Way Forward – Three teams combine

In the midst of uncertainty, the Desert Southwest Conference continues to be a beacon of love, hope, and inclusion. Almost one month after the Traditional Plan is in place, in the Desert Southwest Conference, despite Bishop Bob’s messages of love for all, people are feeling anxiety about the future of their church. Three of the DSC Way Forward teams met to learn about each other’s work and discuss how to do better together so that people are informed, cared for, and equipped to share the good news.

The connections team shared that they’ve been collecting information and disseminating it to other groups. But who are those groups, and how can others become recipients of the data they provide?

The conversations team shared that their focus was listening to the voices within their churches and the voices that are reaching across other United Methodist churches. They have a good foothold on the tone of their churches and eagerly await a call to action. How can they listen to other churches beyond their own, and how can those conversations guide the direction of the DSC Way Forward?

The Communications Team shared that their work seemed to be at a standstill. The information on the dscumc.org/general-conference website needed reorganization, and new content was required. Persistent broadcasting of news or learning resources about the future of The Church continued but perhaps not in the best way.

Along with a fresh perspective on improving communications, the three teams have discovered a way to enhance their collaborative efforts. Within the next week or two, the connections team, the conversations team, and the communications team are combining to fortify their collaborative communications efforts with messages of hope.

God was, is, and always will be with us. “As Christ-followers, you and I are bearers of light – the good news of Jesus Christ to the world.” (Bishop Bob)

“What the Lord requires from you: to do justice, embrace faithful love, and walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8 Common English Bible)

Regardless of what the secular news reports or what might happen during General Conference 2020,

“Tell your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children to another generation.” (Joel 1:3)

We have ministry and mission to do! Are you called to join this effort? Do you want to renew your commitment to be a part of the DSC Way Forward? Then click here to contact Judy Boroto via email.
