Dear Members and Friends of the Desert Southwest Conference,
I invite you to join me for A Moment of Spiritual Support in Challenging Times!
When I was a child, I had a special place I would go to when I was afraid or alone. There was a huge tree with enormous branches growing in my back yard. To comfort myself I would climb that tree and lie in the embrace of its branches. In the safety of that tree, alone with my thoughts, I found a sense of peace, as I turned to God in prayer, listening for God’s voice. And after spending time with God in that place, I would find the strength to let go of my fear, and with faith renewed, climb down to face the world.
As we deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, it is a challenge to be “the church.” It feels like this is one of those times when I need a place of refuge and retreat to quiet my fears and anxieties and seek God’s presence and encouragement. It is time for some of God’s Good News! If you are likewise longing for a word of faith and encouragement, I invite you to A Moment of Spiritual Support in Challenging Times!
Since we cannot be with one another physically, we can and must remain with each other spiritually. The pastors in our conference are working hard to provide ways to do just that. As your bishop I am concerned that our pastors also have a place of rest and spiritual support. I invite you, pastors and laity of the Desert Southwest Conference (DSC), to connect using the technology that is assisting us to remain in relationship while we practice safe social distancing to maintain health and save lives.
Each Wednesday, beginning this coming Wednesday, April 8, at 12 noon (pacific), let’s come together for a brief time to connect with God through meditation and prayer. The devotional will be on Facebook and available on our DSC website.
I have the privilege of offering my thoughts and prayers in this inaugural devotional moment. Please plan to join me on Wednesday, April 8, 2020, beginning at 12 noon.
Subsequent devotionals will be led by leadership from around the Desert Southwest Conference. Thus far, we are happy to share with you that these persons will be leading our devotions:
April 15 – Rev. Beth Rambikur
April 22 – Rev. Dan Morley
April 29 – Rev. Susan Brims
May God bless you and keep you in faithfulness as followers of Jesus Christ! “See” you on Wednesdays at noon!
