Masks from UMCOR for Desert Southwest Conference UMC

by | Jun 16, 2020 | Billie's Blog, Conference Newsletter, Disaster Response

In May, Rev. Tom Mattick who chairs our Conference Disaster Response team, shared an email with me that UMCOR had notified all annual conferences of the availability of more than 172,000 cloth facial coverings infused with copper and silver. The masks came from FEMA to UMCOR and all Conferences had to do was place their desired order and cover all shipping costs.  Orders would be met on a first come, first served basis.

Upon learning of this opportunity from Rev. Mattick, I was able to contact the UM Disaster Relief Warehouse in Decatur, Alabama and speak with Cindy Sandlin who graciously agreed to ship 7 cases of 500 masks each to the following:  ASU Campus Ministry, NAU Campus Ministry, U of A Campus Ministry, UMOM, JUSTA Center, Wesley Community Center, and TMM.

As I write this, Annual Conference is upon us. I just received an email from Berkley Harris at UMOM, saying her case had arrived and how grateful they are to receive them. The photos are from the UMOM shipment.

This…. is the connectional system of The United Methodist Church in action. Such a blessing!!
