by | Sep 15, 2020 | North District Newsletter, North District Web Page

My name is Dulce Vargas. I was born and raised in San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora, Mexico. It is a little town that is on the border with San Luis, Arizona. My parents, siblings, and relatives live in these towns. I have been in the border or near the border for a long time.

About my studies — I have a Bachelor of International Trade and a Bachelor of Theology from Mexico. Here in the USA, I graduated from the Basic Course for Local Pastors and I am currently studying Advanced Courses at Perkins School of Theology.

About my pastoral ministry — I have worked for nine years as a pastor. My first church was “El Mesias” Methodist Church of Mexico in Tecate, B, C. Mexico. My second church was Menlo Park UMC in Tucson, Arizona. Parker UMC is my third church. I was ordained as an elder in the Methodist Church of Mexico in 2011. I served as a member of the National Team of Christian Education for the Methodist Church in Mexico for seven years.

My ministry has been focused on teaching, discipleship, Bible studies, small groups, Methodism studies, and pastoral care. Also, I am supportive of the youth, children’s, and women’s ministries. I have been working with Interfaith and community connections. In Tucson, I was involved with multi-ethnic ministries and immigration justice ministries.

I am thirty-eight years old and I am single. I like to spend a lot of time with my parents, relatives, and friends. People think I am a friendly person, a traveler, and funny. I have rediscovered my love for arts and crafts, like wire jewelry making and painting (rocks or pots). Music, dance, drawing, poetry, writing, and traveling are all a part of my essence.
