A prayer in thanksgiving for creation

The universe is full of your grandeur, O God. Every fragrance, beauty, texture, and color reveals your divine creativity. Help us to be aware of your artistry in all that surrounds us. Help us to lose ourselves in the fiery brushstrokes of a sunset, and pay attention to a hummingbird, a caterpillar, a petal, a feather, a pebble. Help our eyes linger on an unfurling cloud and notice the way sunlight traces glory through the trees. Help us to celebrate a sliver of a luminescent moon in a blue-black sky and roll the smoothness of a stone over and over in our hands. Help us soak in the first rays of warm sunlight, and step barefoot into the edge of a chilly winter stream. Help us marvel at each pear, peach, plum, and pepper, and give thanks for each daffodil, apricot, herb, and oak. Lord, you are good, and that goodness is revealed through your divine imagination in your beautiful creation. Nothing is common! Boundless wonder is everywhere! Help us to pay attention and fill us with that wonder that we might appreciate your gift of creation and partner with you to care for it. In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen.
