May is Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month

by | Apr 21, 2021 | DSC-RACE Coalition

by DSC RACE Coalition

The month of May is celebrated as Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) heritage month and for the first time in the Desert Southwest Conference, the RACE Coalition will be providing ways to engage with AAPI anti-racism resources and conversations during this month.

The first will be an expanded AAPI resource list to the 21-Day Racial Equity and Habit Building Challenge highlighting 3-5 key resources. This is not a full 21-Day set of resources, rather it is a list of resources that specifically focus on AAPI heritage. This is meant to be a supplement to the resources that are already available.

Second, on Thursday May 13th, from 6:00-7:30 pm PT, there will be a panel discussion with AAPI clergy and laity in the DSC sharing of a variety of topics, including their experiences of racism in our churches and communities. To register, click here.

To end the month, on Monday May 24th, a video premiere will take place featuring an informal interview with Bishop Bob. During the interview we will hear from Bishop Bob about his personal experiences with racism and the challenges and hopes we face as we strive toward peace and justice in the Desert Southwest Conference and The United Methodist Church. This video will be available on May 24th at the RACE Coalition website.

The DSC RACE Coalition invites you to participate in these activities to honor this heritage month.
