If Religion and Race Resolution Passes

by | May 27, 2021 | Religion and Race

If the proposed legislation from the Desert Southwest Conference Commission on Religion and Race passes at this year’s Annual Conference, the DSC Commission on Religion and Race will begin the work of equity for God’s children in the DSC. Part of this work will include a training series based on 5 modules:

  1. Intercultural Competency (Searching for 15 people for this module)
  2. Implicit Unconscious Bias
  3. History of Racism in the U.S.A.
  4. Privilege
  5. I.D.E.A. Discipleship

We will need 15 people, clergy and laity, to be trained as Inclusive and Diversity Trainers for the DSC. These trainers will then facilitate multiple training sessions for the rest of the DSC.

The purpose of trainers will be:

  • To raise awareness and promote the vision of the Missio Dei, the vision of building up the Beloved Community as God’s mission in the world.
  • To foster and facilitate biblical and theological understanding of inclusion and diversity as the work of ministry, especially as it serves to connect congregations and communities.
  • To train and resource conference leadership, pastors, and congregations for increased cultural competency and fulfillment of the Great Commission.

We seek trainers that have:

  • Awareness and passion for inclusion and diversity ministry
  • Ability and capacity for teaching and leading workshops
  • Self-awareness and sensitivity
  • Good interpersonal skills, especially empathetic listening
  • Cultural humility, proficiency, and competency

The goal is to have 15 different trainers for each of the five modules, but recruiting now is only for the first module.

We are planning to have the first training for the trainers of the Intercultural Competency module on August 5-7 via Zoom.

If you’re interested in becoming a trainer, more information will be posted after Annual Conference on the CORR website and published in the next conference newsletter, with links through social media.

Thank you!
