Dear Members and Friends of the Desert  Southwest Conference ,

Change happens!  And it can be a welcomed time for renewal and refreshing new experiences.

As we enter into a time of episcopal transition, I want to assure the Desert Southwest Conference that the plan of coverage has been approved by the Council of Bishops. Beginning October 1, 2021, as I retire, Bishop Grant Hagiya will assume responsibility for the Desert Southwest Conference. This is not a plan to merge the two conferences!  Rather, until the election of a new bishop for the DSC, Bishop Hagiya will have responsibility for two conferences.

To assist him, a transition team is being assembled. These are leaders in our conference that will help provide connections, history, insight and will be instrumental as Bishop Hagiya learns about you and leads you.

Persons I have asked to serve on this Transition Team are:

Randy Bowman, Treasurer and Director of Administrative Services
Susan Brims, Appointive Cabinet Dean
Dan Morley, Extended Cabinet Dean
Matt Ashley, Connectional Ministries
Javier Olivares, Diversity and Inclusion
Dave McPherson,  New Faith/Vital Faith

As you might expect, Bishop Hagiya and I have been communicating and meeting to empower this Transition Team. In addition, Bishop Hagiya will be meeting with other leaders of the DSC soon after he begins his new relationship with your conference.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email my office.

I ask that you open your hearts to him as you did when I became first came to serve as your bishop and that you find ways to express that warm DSC welcome!
