On the Road with Dan

by Rev. Dan Morley, North District Superintendent

We do ministry as team, as cohorts, as co-servants. Our annual church/charge conferences are a testament to this way and method of ministry. In our local church conferences, we meet as a covenantal team aligned toward a vision, ministry, and call.

It is Jesus who teaches us this way as he called a team of twelve to engage in ministry to transform lives; to transform the world. Christ continues to call us.

Our North District team includes two gifted co-lay leaders

  • Kari Cozine Butchko, member of Advent UMC in Las Vegas, NV
  • Dave Kopecky, member of St. John’s UMC in Kingman, AZ

Two strong servants of Christ who, through the years, have given faithful leadership in their churches. Both are also well respected and effective educators in the school districts of their communities.

The United Methodist Church Book of Discipline informs us that the District Lay Leader shall have responsibility for fostering awareness of the role of the laity both within congregations and through their ministries in the home, workplace, community, and world in achieving the mission for the Church, and supporting and enabling lay participation in the planning and decision‐making process of the district and the local churches in cooperation with the district superintendent and pastors.

We give a spirited welcome to our two North District Lay Leaders.
