From the DSC Episcopacy Committee

September 28, 2021

Dear Siblings in the Desert Southwest Conference,

Greetings to you in the name of our Christ Jesus.

Autumn is here and the seasons are changing.

We also want to recognize a change of season for our episcopal leader.

A Special Session of the Western Jurisdiction Conference was held in July of 2021 which approved the request by Bishop Bob Hoshibata to enter into retirement, effective October 1st, 2021.

The Conference Committee on Episcopacy had been planning for our bishop’s eventual retirement for some time. However, due to extenuating circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic including the delayed scheduled retirement, the Episcopacy Committee has had to revise our original plans as many of you have likely experienced in your local churches and ministries.

Instead of in-person celebrations for our bishop, a virtual celebration was offered at the Special Session of the Western Jurisdictional Conference in July. As the Desert Southwest Conference, we also shared our affirmation and appreciation of Bishop Bob Hoshibata at our last Episcopacy Committee meeting with him.

This meeting has been recorded and we offer it to you now along with the farewell message from the Special Session of the Western Jurisdiction Conference.

In honor and appreciation of Bishop Bob, we encourage any gifts to be made to the Bishop Robert T. Hoshibata scholarship at the Claremont School of Theology.  You may choose to donate by mail or online.

Lastly, if you would like to share a personal greeting, an online portal is available for you to send your messages digitally to Bishop Bob.

You can find the farewell videos, donation links and options to share a message with Bishop Bob at this link:  https://dscumc.org/bishop-bob/

We give thanks to God for God’s faithfulness, and we give thanks for Bishop’s Bob’s ministry with us.

And in joyful anticipation, we will welcome our new bishop on October 1, 2021. Bishop Grant Hagiya will be sharing a welcome message with us and you can learn more about him by visiting the bishop page after October 1, 2021.
