By Billie K. Fidlin, Director of Outreach & Justice
We are pleased to announce that we are expanding our justice work to include a means by which you can be notified of concerns and action steps around specific themes.
There will be at least seven areas that will communicate immediate action steps that you might want to take. Examples for these emails would include calling your legislators and why, notification of rallies, marches, or prayer vigils, legislative updates, the need to address at the state capitals in AZ and NV legislative committees, etc.
Much of justice work happens quickly and we know we need to be able to respond. We will make every effort to ensure that content is compatible with the Book of Resolutions. Many years ago our Conference had a similar email blast system and it worked well in bringing critical issues and related action steps to the attention of our constituency.
The good news is you can sign up for the area or multiple areas of interest that you would like to receive notifications on. The areas are listed below. Here is the general sign-up link: https://dscumc.org/subscribe. Specific Outreach/Justice areas are noted below:
- Children, Education, Human Trafficking & Poverty
- Earth Care
- Economic Inequality
- Gun Violence Awareness
- Inter-religious Concerns
- Prison Reform
- Welcome & Reconciling / Strength for the Journey
Should you hear of something you feel should be communicated in a specific area, we want to hear from you. Please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will work with the chair of the related area on your request.
Be sure to sign up for the Facebook groups related to these areas as well as the DSC Church & Society Facebook page. These social media sites will continue to carry general information and news items on topics. You can access the Conference Facebook groups at: https://www.facebook.com/dscumc/groups.
Thank you for your participation. Your voice, your presence, and your prayers are greatly appreciated!
