I had a “God Moment” during the church service a few Sundays ago. That isn’t unusual, God moments are supposed to happen during the service. The pastor and the worship team work hard to create openings for “God Moments” to occur. A God Moment is that personal encounter one may experience where God’s purpose, presence, and love is revealed. This moment was a little different for me because it happened during the special music time. The special music was a solo sung by a talented musician who is a member of the choir. Her selection was Beyond the Open Door. (You can read the lyrics here.)
In the things familiar we find security
Resisting all the changes that days and years can bring
When God decides to lead you through an open door
Inviting you to walk in realms you’ve never known before
This first verse really resonated with me. I do find security in the familiar. Change can be hard. Listening for God’s voice can be hard too. Sometimes He asks me to do something new and different or as the song says, invites me to walk in realms I’ve never known before. Last year, my mother passed away. Not having her to talk to on the phone was very much a walk into a realm I had never known before. My husband was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Learning to navigate his change in medical and physical needs was a walk for both of us into a realm we had never known before. In both of these situations, we can see that God was leading us through an open door, inviting us to live and indeed thrive in a new realm.
Thanks be to God. Amen
