Your Desert Southwest Conference Earth Care team will be providing you with a short tip each month to help address things we can do to care for environmental justice. Here is this month’s tip.

Fall fashions, so much fun to shop for new clothes! This season, keep our environment in mind as you shop. You can have the biggest impact by keeping it local and New to You, shopping at thrift stores, consignment shops, and garage sales. If you must buy new, select natural fibers. Polyester and acrylic items shed microplastics when washed, ending in our food and water. Avoid “fast fashion” (clothes that only last one season) and focus on durability, classic styles, and repairable items. For clothing beyond repair or donation, downcycle it: first, “chore wear,” then painting/garden clothes, then rags. We can make a dent in textile waste. Let’s all celebrate the new season with a simpler lifestyle this year!
