Just because the Summer Camp season has come to an end and campers have headed back to school doesn’t mean camps are slowing down! The fall retreat season is here and DSC C&RM is delighted to share our upcoming retreats and events, including the new Teen Retreat (coming to both sites) for LGBTQIA+ individuals and their allies and two new camps at Mingus this fall and winter! Please check out the websites (and see more below) for details.

Announcements

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. ~Jeremiah 29:11

In this (seemingly) perpetual season of change, we, the Desert Southwest Camp & Retreat Ministries Team, have found we are shifting again. Tracey Brown, long-time Director of Potosi Pines Camp and Retreat Center, has been called to a new position. Beginning in October, she will serve as the Executive Director at Pilgrim Pines, a UCC Camp & Retreat Center located in Oak Glen, CA.

Tracey has served joyfully and faithfully at Potosi Pines for over 13 years. We, using what we like to call “camp math,” believe the following to be true about her service here in the Desert Southwest:

  • She has made approximately 134,000 s’mores and consumed 243 of them. (Can you really expect her to eat them all?)
  • She has counted over 15,000,000 stars (but the rumor is she lost count once and had to start over, so we’re sure that count is actually much higher)
  • She has learned and forgotten more ‘Dad’ jokes than most humans should hear in one lifetime.
  • She has ensured that thousands of foster children can experience God’s love through a camp experience. What a blessing!
  • She has patiently taught and developed an untold amount of youth and young adults as they mature—guiding them to be better people and better leaders for the glory of God.
  • She has cultivated a warm and inviting community where all who come are challenged, inspired, loved, and welcomed for who they are.

For all these things AND SO MUCH MORE, we will miss Tracey. Yet, we are sure that Tracey will continue in the ministry of making disciples of Christ for the transformation of the world. Join us as we wish her well by sending an email or sending a card to Tracey at tracey7673@live.com or 10910 Mount Potosi Canyon Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89161.

With gratitude for Tracey and hope for the future of Potosi, we are still confident that God has big plans for Camp & Retreat Ministries in the Desert Southwest and we are excited to see what happens next!

DSC Potosi Pines Camp:

  • NEW! Pop-Up Camp Days: You may have already seen these in action on our website, but we want to tell you all about how we are bringing camp to YOU at local churches (Advent UMC and Pahrump Valley UMC) in the Las Vegas area. These Pop-Up camps are for elementary-aged campers and run by volunteers from the churches. With programming supported by Potosi Pines’ dedicated staff, we are able to offer these little-to-no-cost events on teacher work days and similar holidays parents don’t have off of work to bring the camp experience to children and youth outside of the summer camp season. Though we’ve only run one Pop-Up at each of these churches, they have filled up FAST and we are excited to offer more in the near future. Please go to the Potosi website to keep up-to-date on the next Pop-Up Camp Days!
  • Winter Camps: More details about these camp favorites coming soon! Until then, mark your calendars.
    • Jr/Sr High Winter Camp: January 14 – 16, 2023
    • Elementary Winter Camp: February 18 – 20, 2023

Retreats at Camp

Potosi Pines and Mingus Mountain are the perfect locations to hold retreats! Come enjoy the serenity and peacefulness of our beautiful locations. Plan your own retreat or let our staff help with programming and schedules; we can accommodate groups of 20 or more. If an overnight stay does not fit into your schedule, consider a day retreat! We can help plan your staff retreat, family camp, youth retreat, and more.

Camp is also a great getaway for a mid-week clergy retreat. Mingus Mountain offers two motel-style VIP rooms, complete with 2 single beds each, bed linens, towels, and private bathrooms.
