Arizona State University Lodestar, prompted by the Episcopal Diocese of Phoenix, designed a certificate program for a special sector of nonprofits – churches. ASU Lodestar Center worked with the Center’s Nonprofit Management Institute to develop the content for the “Best Skills Best Churches Nonprofit Management Certificate Program.” Now a Bishop, Megan Traquair brought the idea to ASU Lodestar while serving as the Canon to the Ordinary in Phoenix.

“Courses will provide engaging, practice-oriented learning experiences that are focused on knowledge, skills, and techniques that can immediately be implemented in your faith-based organization. This program will provide you with an unparalleled opportunity to develop and enhance your leadership and management skills in order to best serve your faith community.” After a pilot run with Episcopal clergy, the program has expanded to include leadership from all denominations in Arizona and beyond.

Courses include: Volunteers in Service; Legal Aspects of Governance; Effective Communication and Handling Conflict; Marketing and Community Presence; Financial Management for Effective Service; and Fundraising Aspects of Stewardship.
