Mission u 2023

Join us at Mission u as we explore the good news and what it means for our lives!

Jesus’ teachings in the Gospels proclaim the good news of the kin-dom or reign (basileia) of God. In fact, Jesus mentions the kin-dom 90 times in the Synoptic Gospels! What does the Bible tell us about God’s basileia and why do we call it the kin-dom?

For Jesus, the kin-dom was not simply something to talk about but something we could live and experience. From the Lord’s Prayer to the beatitudes to the parables, this good news is at the heart of Jesus’ preaching, teaching and ministry.

Come! Let’s explore together the heart of Jesus’ good news and what fresh vision it offers us as we seek to be in mission today.

Meet our Awesome Study Leaders!

Corella, Rev. Amanda

Prescott Valley UMC, Prescott Valley, AZ

Rev. Amanda Corella served as a spiritual leader at GCU for three years and, in 2016, received her bachelor’s degree in Christian Studies with an emphasis in Biblical Studies. From GCU, she went on to study at Boston University’s School of Theology for three years. In her second year, she took on the role of full-time student and half-time pastor of Tewksbury United Methodist Church. Amanda served as the lead pastor of Tewksbury UMC for the last two years of her education before she graduated with her Master of Divinity and returned to the Desert Southwest Conference to serve where she is currently serving as the Pastor of Prescott Valley UMC.

Rev. Susan Jacobson

Rev. Susan Jacobson

Rev. Susan Jacobson graduated from college in 1971 and went into the personal computer business in the San Francisco Bay Area; she found her way into a United Methodist Church in Texas where Xerox had transferred her and her family in 1978. Shortly after that her world turned upside down. she recognized that one of God’s gifts to her was the love of public speaking, but she needed something important to speak about … she sensed a call to the preaching and teaching ministry. Since she and her family now lived in the Dallas area, she began the journey into ordained ministry and the Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree in 1984 at Perkins School of Theology, SMU. She has served as youth pastor, associate, and pastor-in-charge during her ministry career. Rev. Jacobson also had the wonderful posts of college professor, hospice chaplain and currently works with survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault.

Rachel Mosher

Rachel Mosher

Rachel Mosher is the youth and “young adult” coordinator at St. Mark’s UMC in Tucson, AZ, where she lives with her husband and two children. Rachel loves working with teenagers and enjoys learning all the new funny words and trends along with them. Some of her youths have said that “Rachel is super fun and full of enthusiasm for everything, literally a light in the world” and “Rachel is an up and coming TIkToker with good vibez”, which she is hoping is a compliment! While teaching at St. Mark’s, Rachel has enjoyed writing the weekly Youth Sunday School lessons and adapting Confirmation curriculums to fit her unique and amazing students. Writing the Mission U study “Seek and You Shall Find: Living in the Kin-dom” was her first exciting trip into the world of writing curriculum to be distributed and it was such a fun experience!
