Love the World

Love the World

by Rev. Javier Olivares, West District Superintendent A Prayer to Love the World Again   God of heroes and heartbreak, teach us to love the world again. Teach us to love extravagantly knowing it may (it will) break our hearts and teach us that it is worth it....

Creating New Ways

Creating New Ways

As I have visited with pastors and their churches in the West District in the last month, I’ve been amazed of the numerous ministries and people who’ve been impacted by these congregations throughout the years.

God is with us wherever we go

God is with us wherever we go

This verse stuck with me as I was growing up in the church. Moving from a farm life to the city as a teenager was overwhelming and frightening for me. However, my grandmother would recite this verse in a form of a prayer. Somehow, she knew this verse would play a key role during my early years as a Methodist.

Final Thoughts

Final Thoughts

This will be my last article to you as your District Superintendent and as an active pastor. As I thought about what last words I want to share, I keep coming back to John 17. In these final words of Jesus, he shares his prayer that we might be one with him and each other. His final lessons and message are given so that we can share completely in his joy. (John 17:13) As I approach this final month in this season of ministry, my heart is filled with gratitude and anticipation.

Living in the Divine Rhythm

Living in the Divine Rhythm

Discipleship is the center of our mission as a church and the center of our practice as Christians. Disciples are people who not only want to know Jesus, we are people who want to be like Jesus. Jesus lived in absolute sync with God. In fact, Scripture tells us that the two moved as one.

Resurrection Hope

Resurrection Hope

By Rev. Nancy Cushman As I write this newsletter article, we are celebrating Easter. For our second year in a row, we celebrated this special day with the online worshipping community. I have to admit that I am looking forward to being in-person next year, but...

Lenten Love

Lenten Love

Lent is a time for introspection and self-examination. If God is love as 1 John proclaims, it seems appropriate that part of our Lenten practice is to examine the expanse and depth of our ability to love. Jesus was Emmanuel (God-with-us), and he showed us the expanse and depth of God’s love. Through him we see that God’s love reaches out intentionally to those who are marginalized in the community.

A New Season

A New Season

God wove the changing of the seasons into the fabric of creation. Day turns into night which turns into day. Spring turns into summer which turns into fall which turns into winter which turns into spring.
