The Board of Ordained Ministry (BOOM) is responsible for leading and serving the church in inviting, equipping, and supporting faithful and effective spiritual leaders from all cultural, ethnic, and racial backgrounds, who serve as ordained deacons and elders, licensed local pastors, diaconal ministers, certified persons in specialized ministries, and clergy endorsed for extension ministries in order to fulfill the mission of The United Methodist Church and the proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ The division’s work includes all men and women who are serving in categories of appointment by a bishop (BOD¶1421). In short, BOOM exists to equip and support clergy, and encourage and prepare those who feel called to ordained or licensed ministry become clergy.
The Commission on Communications guides and assists the communications staff and volunteers of the Desert Southwest Conference in their mission to facilitate Christian disciple-making through communications ministries, particularly (1) by facilitating communications within and among the agencies, leaders, and membership of the Desert Southwest Conference and (2) by helping to equip local congregations to communicate with their membership and communities. The Commission on Communications work focuses on and guides the communications ministries of the Desert Southwest Conference as directed by ¶646 of the Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church and as guided by the guidelines adopted by the Annual Conference and Commission on Communications members.
The Episcopacy Committee acts as the Bishop's point of contact and provides sage advice. They offer advice and direction to the holder of the GNJAC's highest office while giving the Bishop frank, constructive criticism; the voice and sentiment of the UMC body.
Equitable Compensation supports full-time clergy serving as pastors in the conference by: (a) recommending standards for pastoral support; (b) administering funds to be used in base compensation
supplementation; (c) providing guidance for superintendents and committees on pastor/parish relations, and (d) submitting an arrearage policy for the conference. We undergird all areas of the DSC Strategic Direction.
