Introduction to Lay Servant Ministry: The Basic Course – Lay Servants offer their gifts in the areas of Caring, Leading and Communication. The authors of the Basic Course book discuss processes to help you discern and respond to God’s particular call in your life. They encourage each person to recognize and employ his or her spiritual gifts for the Church. The book presents numerous types of ministries in which Lay Servants may assume roles. The book for this class is “Lay Servant Ministries Basic Course” by Sandy Ziegler Jackson & Brian Jackson.
Life Together in The United Methodist Connection – This advanced course gives participants an overview of the structure and organization of The United Methodist Church. This in-depth analysis of the connection between United Methodist polity and theology addresses ways in which historical developments have shaped-and continue to shape-the organization of the church. The book for this class is “The Method of our Mission” by Laceye C Warner.
Participants are responsible for purchasing and reading the text in advance of the course. You can order your book from Cokesbury or other vendors (i.e. Amazon). It is expected the book will be read prior to attending the course.
