Lay Servant Training 11/10/2021 – Daytime Zoom

An event every day that begins at 8:30 am, repeating until November 12, 2021
Children of Abraham – This class is a beginning, an opportunity to explore the mutual roots in story of the three Abrahamic religions. It will focus on what we have in common, how each faith’s wisdom can enrich our own, and how to begin having interfaith conversations. Participant textbook: The Faith Club – A Muslim, A Christian, a Jew: Three Women Searching for Understanding by Ranya Idliby, Suzanne Oliver, and Priscilla Warner
The course is scheduled for Wednesday-Friday, November 10-12. You will receive a Zoom link closer to the class.
Day Class (you will need to commit to all three sessions)
- Wednesday, November 10 – 8:30 AM-12:00 PM
- Thursday, November 11 – 8:30 AM-12:00 PM
- Friday, November 12 – 8:30 AM-12:00 PM, conclude with Holy Communion and Graduation.

Class Leader Rev. Louie Lyon
Rev. Louie Lyon is a retired United Methodist Pastor “who has failed retirement four times” since retiring in 2013 as the Senior Pastor at Lakeview UMC and Supervising Pastor of the Sun Cities Greater Parish. Louie currently is serving Dove of the Desert UMC in Glendale as their Minister of Pastoral Care. Louie has served as a United Methodist pastor for 38 years and greatly enjoys teaching. Louie was brought up in an Orthodox Jewish Home, having gone to Hebrew school and having a Bar Mitzvah at 13, as prescribed in Jewish tradition. Louie has had the opportunity to visit and tour the Holy Land and Middle East four times. Louie is looking forward to exploring with those who sign-up for this course how three major religions of the world (Judaism, Islam and Christianity) came into being and intertwined together in the Middle East Region.
