Instructor Rev Donna Hughes
I am once again home in the desert after 42 years. I grew up in the southern desert of California and went to Jr. High and High School in Holbrook, AZ. After High School I went away to college in Texas for both a bachelors and masters in Livestock Management/Horse Science. Incredibly fun and interesting degrees! After graduate school I met the last missionary to leave China and he encouraged me to apply to teach English in China so I taught Agricultural English in Inner Mongolia, PRC and then through the inability to find a job in my chosen field I ended up at seminary with a dear friend. There I saw my first woman preach and felt the call to ministry. I began serving churches in 1992.
I had no desire to ever live in the Midwest but God had other ideas. I served churches and a campus ministry in the Dakotas Annual Conference, I was a pastor and college chaplain in the Iowa Annual Conference (where I am still a member), worked at three colleges as a campus minister in Cleveland then spent the last seven years, before coming to the DSCUMC as a college Chaplain at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA. I am a trained spiritual director and a certified enneagram trainer. My husband and I retired over a year ago, sold everything and bought a 5th wheel and had been work camping around the U.S. with our two Weimarainers (grey ghost dogs). I was missing ministry and came out of retirement to serve Sunrise UMC part-time. My husband is a lover of skydiving so is taking advantage of our proximity to Eloy to sky dive as much as possible. I am an avid trail runner, hiker, reader, movie goer, yoga lover, world traveler, eater of interesting foods and unusual candy sampler.
