Welcoming, Affirming, Reconciling Ministries (WARM) equips and mobilizes United Methodists of all sexual orientations and gender identities to resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves.
The Status and Role of Women committee advocates for full participation of women in the total life of the Desert Southwest Conference and The United Methodist Church. We help the church recognize every person – clergy and lay, women and men, adults and children - as full and equal parts of God's human family.
The Prison Reform/Death Penalty Taskforce offers resources for ministries involved in sentencing reform, ending prison privatization, developing just re-entry programs, and increasing participation and opportunities for prison ministry.
Hispanic Latino Ministry serves the purpose of supporting the development, implementation, and assessment of a plan of action to develop fruitful Hispanic Latino disciples in our communities. Our main goals include strengthening existing ministries, starting new congregations and ministries, and identifying, equipping, and deploying local pastors, lay missioners, lay certified ministers, and other individuals who can serve this mission and ministry. All part of our mission to strengthen God's lesson of grace and equality, by giving Hispanic Latino ministries the tools they need to be spiritual leaders in the community.
Higher Education and Campus Ministry is called to embrace the ministry of learning and leadership development in the Wesleyan and United Methodist traditions, serving Christian leaders all over the world who are defined, formed, and shaped by a process of intellectual engagement, spiritual and character formation, and leadership development.
Equitable Compensation supports full-time clergy serving as pastors in the conference by: (a) recommending standards for pastoral support; (b) administering funds to be used in base compensation
supplementation; (c) providing guidance for superintendents and committees on pastor/parish relations, and (d) submitting an arrearage policy for the conference. We undergird all areas of the DSC Strategic Direction.
The Episcopacy Committee acts as the Bishop's point of contact and provides sage advice. They offer advice and direction to the holder of the GNJAC's highest office while giving the Bishop frank, constructive criticism; the voice and sentiment of the UMC body.
